The Society is a member of Ipswich Arts Association and is affiliated to the National Federation of Music Societies, which represents and supports choirs, orchestras and music promoters throughout the United Kingdom. Since our formation, many outstanding international performers have visited the Society. Amongst string quartets who have performed in the past are the Lener, Griller, Amadeus, Janacek, Allegri and Vegh Quartets. From the 1980s onwards we have enjoyed visits from the Lindsay, Endellion, Vanburgh and Coull Quartets in their early days, and have been pleased to see them reach the heights, whilst still returning to play for our Society. Others who have become well-known names in their field and who have played for us include the Brodsky, Maggini, Sorrel and Belcea Quartets, the Angell and Kungsbacka Piano Trios, the Nash Ensemble, Hausmusik, Zephyr (wind ensemble) and Paul Lewis (piano). Overseas groups continue to play for us and we have been privileged to host groups such as the Ysaye Quartet from France, and Kodaly Quartet from Hungary, each of whom came to England just to perform for our Society. |
