Founded in in 2019 and winner of many international music prizes, the Trio Bohémo was described after their Wigmore Hall debut as providing ‘the music that this world needs’. www.triobohemo.com

Trio Bohémo are well-known for their performances of Schubert’s Piano Trio no.2 and we will ‘celebrate the old’ by hearing them play this colossal and wonderful chamber work. Their ICMS centenary concert also includes Shostakovich’s Piano Trio no 1, first performed 100 years ago in 1924, and Reicha’s Grand Trio Concertante, published 200 years ago in 1824.

Their ICMS concert combines two traditional and splendid works by Mozart and Brahms written for two pianos, with the innovative and challenging twentieth century piece ‘Hallelujah Junction’ by John Adams. We are fortunate in having one of the few venues capable of putting on a concert of two pianos and it is a ‘first’ for ICMS!

Ensemble Molière were the first ever BBC Radio 3 New Generation baroque ensemble, from 2021-23. Formed in 2014 they have toured extensively in Europe. www.ensemblemoliere.com

Ensemble Molière will also be the first baroque music group to perform for ICMS. Their concert comprises a selection of pieces by French baroque composers to mark the daily activities of King Louis XIV, the ‘Sun King’.

The Quatuor Agate’s name and inspiration comes from Brahms’ second sextet for strings, played in the opening concert of last year’s season. They have achieved international recognition since 2021 with their debuts in the major chamber music venues across Europe. www.quatuoragate.com

To commemorate our centenary and support the future of chamber music, ICMS have commissioned a new work by the acclaimed young composer Sebastian Black. The new composition, for clarinet quintet, will be premiered at this concert. Quatuor Agate and Jonathan Leibovitz will also ’celebrate the old’ with a performance of the well-loved Mozart Clarinet Quintet.

Founded in 2011, the distinguished Villiers Quartet, applauded for their ‘commitment and virtuosity’, is currently the quartet-in-residence at Oxford University. villiersquartet.com

The quartet is committed to coaching the musicians of the future. For our gala centenary concert, the Villiers will work with students from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and perform the quintessential and glorious Mendelssohn Octet for Strings.

The concert will ‘embrace the new’ with a performance of the eclectic string quartet no. 1 composed by Vivian Fung in 2003. And the Villiers will play Haydn’s ‘Fifths’ quartet which is special to ICMS as it was performed at the very first concert of the Society in October 1925, and again in the 50th and 75th anniversary seasons.
